Join us for the annual CAAWS Mystic Krewe of Mutts Parade and Costume Contest! The parade will roll Feb. 13, 2022 this year. The Mystic Krewe of Mutts is our largest annual fundraiser. We have had to make some changes this year, but we won’t let COVID-19 stop the fun! Check back for more details as they are available.

CAAWS Animal Welfare Education & Shelter for Over 40 Years in Baton Rouge

The Capital Area Animal Welfare Society (CAAWS) is the first and oldest non-profit in the Greater Baton Rouge Area committed to the well-being of animals in the community since 1979. Our purpose is primarily operating as an educational resource for the community on responsible pet ownership, the humane treatment of animals, and the beneficial practice of spaying and neutering.

We also function as an adoption shelter for homeless dogs and cats. Our passion for animals has been going strong for the last 40 years, and we couldn’t do it without your donations. Consider donating to CAAWS today through one of many ways. Whether it is through giving your time or sending us needed supplies such as treats or toys for our Baton Rouge-based shelter, we much appreciate it every single time.

Giving a Voice to the Voiceless

Our purpose is to be there for animals and work compassionately to educate the community on the humane treatment of animals. Pets are the light of our life, and they deserve the best treatment we can give them. At CAAWS, we believe that every animal deserves the chance to have a long, healthy life.

We offer educational programs and the resources pet owners need to get their pets spayed and neutered in East Baton Rouge Parish. We also serve surrounding parishes, including:

Testimonial

Gwen Jones and Wolfie

“I adopted my dog Wolfie from CAAWS and it was an excellent experience. They asked for a minimum cost to cover spay/neuter and other non-profit costs, and I doubled my payment because I was so happy with the way they treated me. Wolfie had been in the shelter for two full years and I thought he would struggle with doggie depression and other problems within the first year, but it turned out that Wolfie had been treated extremely well and was very well adjusted. I couldn’t be happier with CAAWS and I donate every year on Wolfie’s adoption anniversary. Thank you, Sabra, and everyone at CAAWS for my beautiful little angel.”

Fully-Funded Through Your Heartfelt Donations

CAAWS is fully-funded through generous public donations from residents in East Baton Rouge Parish and surrounding parishes. We classify as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, so all donations are tax-deductible. As a volunteer-run non-profit, all donations to CAAWS go directly into animal care, medical expenses, shelter expenses, pet food, supplies, and more! Your help matters not only to us but, more importantly, to the animals in need.
