CAAWS couldn’t exist without our volunteers. Our organization operates thanks to the helping hands of fellow animal-lovers. We have multiple positions open for volunteers in different areas of our organization. From helping to clean the shelter for our dogs and cats to event planning for our biggest fundraisers, we’re sure to have a position for you.
What Volunteering with Us Includes

Dog Shift
Volunteers taking this position consists of feeding, medicating, letting out, cleaning up after, and playing with our dogs housed at CAAWS.
Cat Shift
Volunteers working a cat shift feed our sheltered cats, scoop/dump litter, perform general cleaning, and experience the joy of playing with CAAWS cats and kittens.
Fostering
CAAWS relies on and appreciates volunteers who choose to give their time, love, and home to our foster animals. If you have space in your life and home for an animal in need, consider becoming a foster parent.
Volunteer for Our Adoption Events in Baton Rouge
We need volunteer support while transporting animals to offsite adoption locations when necessary. Duties include setting up tables and cages, working with adoption counselors to keep the animals happy and safe, greeting the public, and answering any questions about adopting an animal or CAAWS.
Shifts for this position are available for a full or partial day. Our only request for participation is that you fully commit to attending!
Humane Education
Our Humane Education Volunteers go to local elementary schools and libraries with our most well-behaved CAAWS dogs to teach responsible pet ownership, the importance of spaying and neutering, and child-pet safety.
Volunteers for this program assist with the props, handle the CAAWS dog, or do a presentation about animal welfare. No training is necessary because all the required teaching materials will be provided to you beforehand.
Our educational presentations typically last from 45 minutes to an hour. During the summer months, we give presentations at several libraries.
Pet Touch Therapy
Pet Touch Therapy volunteers visit local retirement communities/nursing homes and other facilities with their personal pets.
Special Events Committee
This volunteer position is important to us since our organization runs on the donations received during our special events. Volunteers’ responsibilities include:
- Event Brainstorming
- Event Planning
- Advertising
- Setting Up & Breaking Down
- Coordinating Jobs
Fundraising Committee
If you’re someone who has a knack for organizing and networking, then you might be the perfect fit for our Fundraising Committee. This position includes communicating with sponsors and working alongside our Events Committee and Public Relations Committee to support our fundraising efforts.
Administration
Are you someone who prefers to work “behind the scenes?” A volunteer position in our administration department might be the place for you in CAAWS. Administration volunteers help with organization, excel spreadsheets, tracking, information gathering, data entry, phone call returns, supply ordering, and more.
Communications
CAAWS needs volunteers to help us with our marketing, public relations, and communications. As a communications volunteer, you will get to work on a variety of projects that will help us grow.
Our ideal candidate is someone who is an animal lover who has a knack for marketing, public relations, and communications. In this role, volunteers also interact with online communities, as well as build relationships within the animal welfare community.
