We always want everyone to feel fully comfortable and confident in us and encourage a Doors Always Open Policy for all members of the organization and encourage you to let us know of any questions, concerns, complaints, etc, that you may have. This will remain fully anonymous, unless you choose to let us know.
Things to Remember: Updated 11/9/24
- NO human food is to be given to any dogs, EVER.
- Pick up all food bowls by end of shift and wash out, unless directed specifically to do otherwise.
- All clips should be clipped in the back of the runs for the water bowls at all times.
- Slip leads or leashes must be used at all times to bring dogs in and out from the yards.
- KONGS: Do not stuff the Kongs with food, this causes an issue where rancid food is left in them for days which is disgusting and could cause a digestive issue. If a Kong has ANY damage, throw it out.
- Please turn off the large fan, dishwasher, washer, and/or dryer whether or not the clothes/dishes are done when you leave. It is a fire hazard to leave them on unattended.
- A Note on Doggy Field Trips: Please contact Julie and/or Kelly for doggy field trips. We and the dogs would LOVE for more people to take our pups out on field trips. To dog friendly coffee shops or restaurants, the park if appropriate, etc, we just need to know ahead of time. ALWAYS remember to note it in the log below with your name, the dog or dogs you’re taking, and a phone number you can be reached at. Remember only one dog per person.

Didn’t notice Beowulf limping or anything. Confirmed with Julie that he is now allowed back in the yards.
Lots of walks and play (see enrichment chart). Tried walking Sally and Gwen at the same time and Sally did not seem to like Gwen. Gwen didn’t react to Sally

It is miserably humid in the shelter, it feels like a sauna. It feels better outside. We ran the fans but of course have to turn them off before leaving. Jack’s foster picked him up towards the end of the shift, his run will need to be cleaned tomorrow. Beowolf is back to ISO only until his limp gets better. Dog adoptions: pretty slow but Mocha was adopted. Most of you may never have met her she pretty immediately went in to foster when she came in.

Bobbie is back. It looks worse than it is. He has pain meds and Topeka has an antibiotic. Bobbie got an antibiotic shot. He is now HW Negative!!!

Very quiet night, dogs were tired.
ISO sprayed, all garbage to dumpster.

I want to thank Alexis N. for helping out with the shift tonight. It was much appreciated. Messes poop and pee, Cinnamon, Bobbie, and Topeka. Beowulf had pee and Violet had soiled her bed. I washed the cover but I didn’t know how to treat the stuffing. Everyone ate and meds given. I brought in the boxes that were sitting on the front porch. We ran out of puppy food, so could not continue with the mixture of adult/puppy for Autumn/Cinnamon. We just gave 1 cup each of adult food. Watch for loose stool due to food change. Domino looks sad and underweight, we fed him 2 cups per Julie. Gave extra love as well. Gwen also seems kind of sad, give extra loves, hugs. Adoptions: Very slow adoption day, but we did have 3 go out in to foster. Ruby and Layla went into the same foster home with Martha, and Mocha went with Elizabeth another foster home. Sadly neither Bobby nor Gwen’s potentials came in today so ya’ll cross your fingers they come in next weekend!
I showed up at 10am to grab a cat trap and noticed no one was here for the dogs. I let everyone out, cleaned up messes, fed them, and let everyone out again. The dishwasher needs to be started, and I did not wash out any water bowls or deep clean any kennels because I didnt have time. If you can not make your shift, TELL KELLY!! this is not ok!!
I ran the dishwasher while I was at cat adoptions. It’s clean now

Layla and Ruby were so sweet tonight. We moved slowly when approaching them in their kennel to be safe but no gloves needed and they were both even hopping up and down and happy! It seems like they just needed time to adjust

Ruby snapped at us getting her out of her kennel. I used the gloves just in case, but I don’t think she can break skin.
Messes: Topeka, Domino Got new puppies Ruby and Layla. They are very scared and Ruby will growl. You may have to dump them out of the crate but once you do you can grab Ruby with a blanket. Layla will let you pick her up and will snuggle against you. Just go slow and easy and be very calm with them. We also got a new fella named Beowolf (aka: Wolfie). He is an absolute sweetheart. He has a deformed back left paw but it doesn’t seem to bother him. I let Julie know so medical can have a record… Read more »
Violet did not pee on her bed during shift. We just made sure to take her out when she got squirmy.
Final Final comment: Topeka had 2 liquid poops during shift and they stunk. Also, Wolfie wouldn’t eat his dinner at first, but when I went in the run with him he immediately ate all his food. He did the same with his treat. So if won’t eat just go in his run with him and should do fine.
One final note: dishes and laundry are clean.
The comment above is actually for Kelly and Katelyn PM shift. Also, Wolfie will dart out of his run so be mindful when putting him in and out. Adoptions ok’d us moving him to the run by Vi since that gate opens both ways.
