THE CAPITAL AREA ANIMAL WELFARE SOCIETY

The Capital Area Animal Welfare Society is a non-profit organization committed to the well-being of animals in the Baton Rouge community by adopting homeless animals, teaching the community responsible pet ownership and the humane treatment of animals, and promoting the practice of spay/neuter at all times. Our ultimate goal is to have Baton Rouge be a model in the South where all adoptable animals find loving homes.

CAAWS  Needs Volunteers
to provide foster homes for pets. We are severely limited in the number of pets we can save by not having sufficient temporary homes for pets awaiting adoption. If you can help, please contact us at caawsmail@yahoo.com, (225)-752-5801, or use the online form.  CAAWS provides a healthy, spayed/neutered animal. CAAWS will also provide any medical care necessary and medicines for heartworm and flea prevention.
You can try it for a week or two!

CAAWS Dogs for Adoption

Free dog spays

CAAWS is issuing 5 free dog spays each month. The first 5 qualifying applicants for the specific month will get the spays. You MUST fill out an application for the spay. Filling out an application does not guarantee you a free spay. At this time we are only able to offer this for female dogs. To apply for a free spay you may visit at our shelter on Quinn drive Saturdays between 11am-3pm or an application may be emailed or mailed.

Start 2008 out on the right paw, become a foster family!

CAAWS is limited by how many dogs and cats we can take in from the streets/public or the local shelters.  The more foster families we have joining our program, the more animals we can take in.  Unfortunately, that list is way too short and we have to turn away far more sad animals than we would like.  Our building facilities can house only a few cats and dogs and our foster families are swamped with foster dogs and cats/kittens and until those get adopted, we have to turn others away.

Foster

If you would like to foster JUST ONE, either a dog/puppy or cat/kitten until they get adopted, CAAWS provides a healthy, spayed/neutered animal and pays for all medical expenses as well as all medications that may be needed. You provide a temporary, safe, & loving home until they are adopted and, if possible, bring the animal to adoption day several times a month.  If you are able to help, please call or email CAAWS at 752-5801 or caawsmail@yahoo.com. The animals are counting on you!  Please consider becoming a foster parent.

 Volunteer

If you are interested in volunteering, CAAWS has many opportunities from which to chose.  Check out our current list of volunteer opportunities. Maybe we have the perfect one for you!
If you can't volunteer, perhaps you would consider being a "Best Buddy" to an animal in Foster Care. Chose a cat or dog and contribute to its upkeep. We will keep you informed of his/her status. Check out the options here.
