These dogs and puppies are available for adoption at the CAAWS building from 11:00am to 3:00pm on Saturday.
Our animals can also be seen at

Questions about a Dog?

If interested in a particular animal, please email caawsmail@yahoo.com with your questions. Due to the large volume of calls that CAAWS receives on a daily basis and limited volunteer hours available, it is nearly impossible to return all calls. Email is the easiest and quickest way to reach us.

Remember, Saturday 11 AM-3 PM is adoption day at the shelter. Come see us all!

Liza

Seems I now have an address.  My most recent residence was the side of a road scrounging for food during our most coldest days and nights here in Baton Rouge.

Some nice lady found me and brought me to safety.  She gave me a place to lay my head while we waited in line to get into a local rescue group.  She also fed me and watched my hip bones and rib that you could see and count fill in.

My name is Liza and I am a female Chihuahua/Terrier mix born approximately 9/08.  I am up to date on shots, spayed and tested positive for heartworms.  (Guess the mosquitoes living out there on the side of the road with me were hungry too).  CAAWS will pay for this if you’d be so kind as to let me go through treatment with you.

I am an active gal who loves to play with other dogs.  I tend to be way to interested in the felines to live in a house with them (unless you have one that can “hold it’s own”).  I am playful, loving and in need of a new family to call my own.

Noah

As the old saying goes, “When life hands you lemons, make lemonade”, and I’m doing just that.

Well, I found myself at a high kill animal control facility, too young to fight off any diseases that were waiting to attack my immune system.  Lucky for me, my cute looks got me sprung from jail and certain death and I am now in a foster home in the CAAWS program.

I’m what you would call a Lemon Beagle/Dachshund mix, born 4/20/10.  I am neutered, up to date on shots and current on heartworm prevention.  I am teething, not doing what I’m told and going potty in the house, but who wouldn’t look at this face and these ears and get over all that.

I get along fine with the two larger dogs in my foster home (because they let me climb all over them and let me chew on their ears and feet), and even try to play with the cats.  Summer sure is heating up out there.

What’s say you adopt me and I make us a couple glasses of ice cold Lemonade to sip on as we watch movies and I chew on your toes?

Carma

How people treat you is their karma; how you react is yours.

Well my previous owners karma was really bad since I was wondering the streets, skittish and skinny with no where to go and no one to love me.  Well my karma is great because I luckily happened on the right street at the right time and was coaxed into a car by a caring animal lover.  She introduced me to the CAAWS people and, well, as they say, “That’s good karma”.  So this is how I came about my name, Carma (with a “C”) since I felt it was more feminine.

I am a female Lab/Catahoula mix with the most intriguing eyes you’d ever want to stare into.  I was born approximately 7/09, am up to date on shots, have been spayed and tested negative for heartworms.  I just love it here at the CAAWS building because it seems like they (unlike my previous home) never run out of food, water and loving words and pats on the head, I’m making all kinds of new friends, two and four legged and I’m safe from the elements now.

That isn’t all, the CAAWS people have promised me that I will move again.  I didn’t like that at first, but when they explained that it would be to a home with a family to love me and care for me as if I were a human child, I could not argue with that.  I don’t have much to pack, just my new collar, tag and leash I acquired here, but I’m ready to go whenever you are.

Don't get confused. Adopt from CAAWS

Yogi

My brother, Linus, and I should be the poster children for a spay/neuter campaign. See, if our mom would have been spayed, we wouldn't be homeless.

Yes, CAAWS will find us a good home, but for every one us that is saved, several more lose their lives all because of the amount of un-spayed and unneutered pets in the world. CAAWS has had us neutered, brought us up to date on shots and tested us for heartworms. Which, by the way, we are negative.

We are male Schipperke/Papillion mixes and it was estimated that we were born approximately 7/08.

Even if you don't want to adopt my brother or I (which we would really love to go together), please spay and neuter your current pets. This is a non-paid advertisement from Linus and Yogi, spay/neuter advocates.

Lacie

I somehow ended up at a local animal control facility, but someone must have thought my life deserved better than that because I am now in a foster home in the CAAWS program.

I am a female Sheltie/Border Collie mix born approximately 8/06.  I am up to date on shots, spayed and heartworm positive.  CAAWS will pay for my treatment if you want to adopt me now.

I would not do well in a home with small children because I tend to be a little nippy when I get excited.  I am, however, good with other dogs and with cats.  My foster mom says that I have  great manners, am a gentle lady.

With all this hair, I will need regular brushing and trips to the groomer so my locks won’t get matted and I can stay looking as gorgeous as I should look.  Thanks for checking me out, now fill out an application.

Katie

Katie was surrendered by her previous owner when she realized that she was unable to care for her properly.  She is now in a foster home and her foster mom says that she is a little sweetheart.

She is a female Shih-Tzu born 6/24/07.  Katie has been spayed, is up to date on shots and tested negative for heartworms.  She is a shy little lady and would not do well in a home with small children.

She loves attention and would love a family (with not much commotion and activity) to love her and give her the conditional love that she needs and wishes to give back.  She does fine with other dogs.

Hannah

Meet Hannah a female Jack Russell terrier mix who was born around 5/04.

Hannah was found as a stray about a year and a half ago, her rescuer has been looking for a home for her ever since then, but has not been able to find one.

Hannah's situation is now more dire as her rescuer is now facing hard times due to the economy CAAWS is attempting to help find Hannah a furever home as all our foster homes are full.

Hannah is spayed; she is heartworm positive, but CAAWS will pay for her treatment once she's adopted and she will be brought up to date on shots.  Hannah gets along with other dogs and loves to snuggle with her people.  She's a bit shy at first with new people but warms up quickly.

As if Hannah's life hasn't been hard enough she is also missing an eye from an unknown cause as the eye was missing when her rescuer picked her up.

Can you be Hannah's forever home that she so desperately wants before it could be to late?  If you are interested in Hannah please email for an application at caawsmail@yahoo.com
