[ Cat Page 1 ] [ Dog Page 1 ] [ Dog Page 2 ] [ Public Cats/Dogs ]
These dogs and puppies are available for adoption at the CAAWS building from 11:00am to 3:00pm on Saturday. Several of these dogs can be seen at Petsmart during the same time, so if you are interested in somebody below, email to find out if they will be at the building or Petsmart.
Potential Adopters
If interested in a particular animal, please email caawsmail@yahoo.com with your questions. Due to the large volume of calls that CAAWS receives on a daily basis and limited volunteer hours available, it is nearly impossible to return all calls. Email is the easiest and quickest way to reach us. The majority of our volunteers work or attend school full time and are unable to return calls during their work day, leaving very few evening hours available for all call returns. Thank you for your consideration.

My siblings and I used
to be goldfish - or at least that’s what our so-called owners thought.
Our mom had a litter of 6 puppies and obviously the only logical thing
to do was dump us and mom on a not-so-traveled road near a water-filled
ditch. Thank goodness an angel happened our way because mom couldn’t
make it on her own trying to keep all of us from falling in and
drowning.
Well,
we are all health and happy now and decided to trade in our fins for
tails - we look cuter that way. I am a female Lab/Catahoula Leopard Dog
mix born approximately 1/08. I am up to date on shots, spayed and
current on heartworm prevention. Foster mom estimates that I will be
about 50 lbs. full grown. If you do not have any deep 'water filled'
ditches near your home and need an addition to your family, I, or any of
my siblings would love to join you. |

Buttercup
Check
out my video on YouTube.I would like to start off by thanking Cindy Madere as my Best Buddy.
Now about me...
I am a female Chow born approximately July of 2000. I am up to date on shots, spayed and heartworm negative. I might seem a little shy at first, but with a little encouragement, such as belly rubbings and scratches under the chin and behind the ears, I warm up very fast. I would probably do better in a home without cats and small children.
If you are looking to throw sticks, I won't fetch; looking to throw balls, I won't retrieve and return; but, if you are looking to give and receive some quiet lady like love, that I can do.

Kobe
Hey, Kobe here. Come a little closer, I've got something to tell you. I
have a get rich quick scheme that I would like to share with you. "Adopt
a dog, preferably me." You didn't think I was talking about money did
you? That's just status. I mean really rich and happy. A person that
owns a dog, CORRECTION, loves a dog, lives longer and is wealthier than
a person without a dog in its life. I am a male lab mix born
approximately April of 2005. I am up to date on shots, neutered and
heartworm negative. I
am an active guy who would love a jogging companion.
I am intelligent,
extremely energetic and would love an active family that loves life as
much as I do. Don't let my rambunctious personality fool you though, I
can cuddle up on a lap and sleep just like a spoiled little poodle (I
just need a little larger lap.)

Rover
Hi my name is Rover and I'm a basset hound/ bloodhound mix who was born about 11/03. I was found on the side of the road by a nice lady who picked me up, because she didn't want to see me get hit. Since being rescued I have been neutered, brought up to date on shots, and have completed heartworm treatment(7/06). I love everybody I meet and I get along with other dogs and cats. As an added bonus I am also kennel trained and very playful. I have a basset hound body weighing in at about 50lbs. I would love to have a family to call my own that will love me and play with me. Do you think you could be the right family for me?

Godiva
. . . yes, as in 'the finest
chocolate candy'. Although my story won’t seem so fine. It’s hard to
believe before I entered the CAAWS program and found myself a foster
home, I lived on the streets with a homeless person. This kind sweet
soul picked me up and 'made me his mascot' because he was tired of
seeing the neighborhood children mistreat me. He said he knew exactly
how I felt.
Well,
then came my second savior, a man who offered 'my former dad' some cash
for me in order to find me a better home. My second dad is how I ended
up at CAAWS and in a foster home. I am a female Chocolate Lab/Chesapeake
Bay Retriever mix born approximately 2/08. I am up to date on shots,
spayed and current on heartworm prevention. I’m in my 'puppy' stage
right now so even though I’m lots of fun, I’m also lots of work. (So
says foster mom).

Maxine
CAAWS would like to tell you a little about Maxine. She is too shy to talk right now, so we will be her voice. Maxine was found running on the side of the road hungry, scared and it was very obvious that the human race had failed her (on every occasion). When you are on your own every day and night, when it's hot or cold, sunny or rainy, and the only human contact available is one more mean person scatting you away or throwing things at you, you begin to not trust those with two legs. But CAAWS is going to show this young lady that despite everything she has learned from humans in the past, humans can be humane. She is making great strides in her foster home and is trusting humans once again. She gets along with other dogs, but thinks that cats would make great chew toys, so she needs a house with no cats.
Quick movements still scare her so she needs a home with NO children. She is up to date on shots, spayed and has completed heartworm treatment (4/17/06). Maxine is a female Shepherd mix who was born approximately 3/04. Are you the right person for Maxine? Can you be what she needs and deserves? Are you patient and understanding, loving and caring? When she sees that she is able to live without being hurt, some lucky family will be smothered with unconditional love. |

My last address? The
parking lot of a restaurant near the diversion canal. My last owners?
Losers. I’m not sure what I did for them not to want me anymore, but I
sure am glad they chose to continue life without me. See, I’m now in a
foster home, with three other fur-babies my size to play with, am
getting unconditional love, a nice warm place to sleep and as much dog
food as I can eat.
I
have to admit, the dog food isn’t quite as good as the scraps I was
getting, but it is more healthy for me and comes at a steady pace. I am
a female Shih-Tzu/Brussels Griffon mix born approximately 11/05. I am up
to date on shots, spayed and tested negative for heartworms. I love to
follow foster mom and dad around the house everywhere. I weigh
approximately 12 lbs. and at 2 ½ years old, I’m considered an adult, so
I like to hang out with the adults. Children make me nervous and I can
be nippy when they are around. My foster parents say that I am such a
catch, they would not mind keeping me, but if they did, they couldn’t
help the next lost soul with losers for previous owners. I know how it
feels to be on the street, so even though I can stay here as long as I
want, once I find my forever home, the next stray can be saved.

Thor
Good Evening Ladies
and Gentlemen! Introducing in the black and tan corner, standing
approximately 40 inches tall, weighing in at 80 lbs., a male German
Shepherd, up to date on shots, neutered and tested heartworm negative,
from Baton Rouge, Louisiana . . . THOR! Boy, after an introduction like
that how could anyone not want to have me on their team. I’m a very
strong man who is going to need a very experienced owner. I’m very
sweet, loveable and love to give kisses, but don’t realize my size, so I
will need to go to a home without small children, small dogs or cats for
their safety.
I would love an owner that is active and would like to take me on daily
walks/jogs before we curl up on the couch with a good dinosaur leg. I’m
very smart and would like someone who would stimulate my brain. If you
weigh more than double my weight, can keep this big sweetie in line and
don’t mind me cleaning your face everyday, as they say in the boxing
world, "LET’S GET IT ON!"

Hi! I am a female
German Shepherd mix born approximately 1/00. I am up to date on shots,
spayed and tested negative for heartworms. I have been shifted around
quite a bit in my life and would really like to unpack "for good"
somewhere that I can call "home" with people I can call "family".
I
play well with most other dogs. I am a sweet lady who would love
nothing more than to cherish her owners, go for walks, watch a movie
every Saturday night, share a bowl of low-fat popcorn (kind of on a
diet) and give her owner kisses.

Puppy
I am a female Catahoula/Australian Shepherd mix born approximately
11/21/07. I've been spayed, am up to date on shots and current on
heartworm prevention. I am the sole survivor of a litter thrown away by
some mean people. Both of my fur-siblings were run over by this large
moving thing with wheels. I was so scared when I saw this happen that I
didn't dare try to cross the road. Well I must have done good staying
where I was because this nice lady saw me there and picked me up. I'm
staying with her now. She calls herself "Foster mom".
That's fine with me. She's giving me a safe place to sleep, toys to play
with and food to eat, she can call herself just about anything she
wants. The one thing that she is still trying to give me is a "Furever
Family" to call my own. I get along great with children, cats and other
dogs, am a playful sweet lady and am working on my housetraining.
Personally, I don't think it should take that long to find a home with
all these great personality traits. |

Hunter
profile
Even though Hunter had a home, he was always on the run,
looking for another home that had the perks of a family to love him. He
was able to stay clear of the doggie police for a while, until hunger
started to set in and then the humane trap set by animal control to
catch feral cats, lured Hunter in. Upon confirming that his previous
owner really did not want him, the local animal control sought help from
CAAWS for this little guy. Hunter was a tad anemic when we first got
him, due to a large family of fleas that had taken up residence with him
and no matter how much he begged, they would not leave.
Well, CAAWS has evicted everyone and Hunter is healthy and happy now. He
is a Dachshund/Lab mix born approximately 10/1/07. He is up to date on
shots, neutered, heartworm negative and microchipped. At 7 months old he
weighs about 16lbs. This diamond in the ruff will make a great addition
to any family with his sweet demeanor, loving personality and eyes that
show you how much he loves life. Due to his former life he is a tad bit
timid so a home without children will be best for him. He does well with
other dogs and is ready to start his new life. |
Tika
This little piggy went to market, this little piggy
stayed home, Tika a/k/a Miss Piggy was pulled from a local animal
control and brought to the safety of a foster home with CAAWS. Now she
has a chance at life and love. Tika is a female Chihuahua, NO, a
Dachshund, NO, a Bulldog. Ok, both her mom and dad were traveling
salespeople. She was born approximately 2/1/08 is current on vaccines
and heartworm prevention and has been spayed. Tika is truly a social
butterfly, we mean, piglet who loves everyone she meets, including dogs
and cats.
Although
the cats in her foster home don’t really know what to think of her. She
has taken a fancy to her foster dad and feels the need to help foster
mom sort the laundry (but has her own sorting system). Small children
will be a no-no for this pup since her tusks and hooves are very sharp.
She is working on potty training and sharpening those tusks on whatever
she finds lying around. Are you up for a new baby in the house? Oink!
Oink! |

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How big will the puppy be when it grows up?
A: A puppy generally reaches half its ideal adult weight at 4 months of age. Based on our experience, the CAAWS Counselors will have an educated guess on the final size of most puppies up for adoption. Most puppies we see end up weighing 35 to 55 pounds.
Q: Should my dog stay outside?
A: We recommend that a dog be housed inside if at all possible. A dog wishes to be maintained as part of the family unit, therefore it enjoys sleeping in the house. A dog does require at least 1-2 hours of play time outside each day.
Q: How should I potty train my dog?
A: We recommend crate training.
Top |
Q: Will I know if the dog I adopt has heartworms?
A: We will disclose all medical information we have on the adopted dog that we have. We will also provide general information on the treatment of heartworms if the dog you wish to adopt is heartworm positive.
Q: Why does my dog dig?
A: Chances are your dog is bored. Give your dog plenty of supervised play time to work off his energy without getting into trouble. If the dog can not be supervised, we recommend crate training the dog.
Q: How important is breed?
A: Most all dog breeds are good family pets that love children. Mixed breeds, such as most of our adoptees, have no in-bred characteristics, but display their nature readily. If you are looking for a pure bred dog, you should learn the behavioral traits of the breed. |
