Cats and Kittens

These cats and kittens are available for adoption at Petsmart on Airline Highway (map) from 11-3 pm every Saturday. Click the small picture to see a larger picture of the cat.

You can watch a video of cats with the logo in their profile. Just double click on the logo or go to the Youtube.com  website and search for CAAWS. Our animals may also be seen at http://www.petfinder.com/

Potential Adopters

If interested in a particular animal, please email caawsmail@yahoo.com with your questions. Due to the large volume of calls that CAAWS receives on a daily basis and limited volunteer hours available, it is nearly impossible to return all calls. Email is the easiest and quickest way to reach us. The majority of our volunteers work or attend school full time and are unable to return calls during their work day, leaving very few evening hours available for all call returns. Thank you for your consideration.

These kittens and others will be available for adoption July 11th. See them at Petsmart on Airline.
Other kittens are available now!
Velvet Ninja (Above)
Esme the Enchanter (Below)

Purrrr. That’s Ninja talk for hello.
My name is
Velvet Ninja (above, top), but you can just either call me “Velvet” or “Ninja”. True to my Ninja background, I am somewhat of a warrior trained in unorthodox arts of war. I am very adventurous and love to “stalk things” and pounce on them, but don’t let my Ninja status scare you off, because I can also be a bit of a snuggler.
I am in a foster home right now with my sister, Esme the Enchantress, and 2 HUGE dogs. I am very interested in these dogs, but foster mom is limiting my contact with them for now for their safety since my training is in assassination. My sister and I were found underneath a shed by a sweet man who heard us meowing. Little did he know, I was just practicing my martial art’s moves and the noises that come along with them. See, I was planning an “attack” on the horrible people who dumped us under this shed. Oh, well, plans changed quickly, as we were rescued.
I have been spayed, brought up to date on shots and tested negative for FIV and Feluke. I was born approximately 4/1/09 and if my name confused you, I am female. For the safety of your young ones, I will only take up housing in a home with no young human ninjas at this time. I do not want to hurt them.

Esme the Enchantress is my name (above, lower) and I am a female tabby of great charm and fascination who blessed this world with my presence approximately 4/1/09.
I can be a bit shy when first encountering someone new, but I am only more cautious because I have to be sure of your intentions before wasting my time getting to know you.
I am in a foster home right now with my sister, Velvet Ninja, and 2 HUGE dogs. The dogs seem to be ok, but I am not as trusting of these huge beasts as my sister. I am quite sure they are both very taken with my beauty and charm, but I can’t give my love to just anyone.
My sister and I were found underneath a shed by a sweet man who heard us meowing. Personally, I was practicing my “sexy voice” for my new owners. I know our rescuer was smitten with me, but I had to go to the foster home that would meet my needs, which is where I am now. I have been spayed, brought up to date on shots and tested negative for FIV and Feluke. Please understand that I will not be able to go to a home with small children as I am too delicate and fragile at this time.

Ninja, Esme and other kittens will be available for adoption soon!

Many of our cats may be seen at PetSmart on Airline Highway (corner Florida) every Saturday, 11-3 PM.

Raspy

My name is Raspy and once you hear me meow, you will know why they named me Raspy!

I was rescued from a hoarder along with my buddies Big Jake, Tiger, Josie, and Parker. We were all in pretty bad shape but we are better now and here is some great news, we are all vaccinated, sterilized, and FIV/Feline Leukemia negative!

I am an active gal with one blue eye and one green eye that loves to play and romp. Toy, toy, who’s got the toy!

I have a hard time adjusting to new situations, so I will need a very patient family to welcome me into their home. However, once I feel safe and comfy, you will be rewarded with a sweet little kitty who will entertain you for hours.

Come by and see me at PetSmart on Airline this Saturday!

Daisy

My name is Daisy. When I was rescued, I was emaciated, wounded, and pregnant with four kittens. Once my foster mom got me to the hospital, the doctors said that I had lost my sight in one of my eyes.

But the good news is, I am now healthy, vaccinated, negative for feline leukemia and FIV. After giving birth to my four kittens, I was nice enough to be a surrogate mom to a litter of kittens that had no mom to nurse from. Whew! Once all the kids were settled in their forever homes, I was sterilized and now I am looking for MY forever home.

I live in a foster home with other cats and I'm ok as long as no one sneaks up on my blind side. I must admit that I have gained a few pounds since I was rescued, so we may have to face that.  Come meet me on Saturdays at Airline PetSmart and let's see if we can face that New Year's weight loss resolution together!

Benny

My name is Benny and I really am a great guy.

Most people take one look at me and say the same thing "that's one big cat!" but in truth, I'm a really shy guy just looking for a home.

I am a four-paw declawed, sterilized, 5 year old tabby cat who is up-to-date on my vaccinations and negative for bad stuff like FIV and Feline leukemia. I don't think I would do well in a home with young children as I am very skittish.

Once I become comfortable with my surroundings, I will start coming out of my shell and you can see my playful side – the one who can never resist an invigorating battle with an evil shoestring or laser!

So, please, take a second look and try not to see just a "big" cat, see a shy guy named Big Ben who would love a home of his own.

See him at PetSmart on Airline Saturday.

Special appointments may be set up to see the cats that don't come to Adoption Day at PetSmart. Call (225) 752-5801 or email caawsmail@yahoo.com.

Alternatives to Declawing:
  • Put a scratch post by your favorite piece of furniture.
  • Use "Soft Paws". These are like press-on nails that cover the claws.  They need to be replaced every 2 months or so.
  • Declawing can spawn behavioral problems such as not using the litter box.  The litter can be rough on the cat's sore paws and cause it to shy away from using the litter box.
Safety Tips to Cat-Proof Your House
  • Keep washer and dryer lids closed.
  • Keep toilet lids closed.
  • Keep yarn, string, and ribbons out of reach of cat.
  • Needles and threads should be stored away.
  • Mini-blind strings can be very dangerous to a cat. Keep them out of reach.
Why It Is Not A Good Idea to Have An "Outside" Cat
  • Cars!!!!!
  • Dogs and other predators.
  • Antifreeze is deadly to cats and can be found in garages and carports. Your neighbor may not have pets and not worry about keeping harmful substances out of reach.
  • Animal Control recovers, and euthanizes, nearly 6,000 cats each year. Many appear to be displaced house pets.
  • An outside cat is more at risk to exposure of FIV and Feline Leukemia.
Adjusting to A New Home
  • For the first day in a new home you should keep your cat in a room alone with food, water, and a litter box. This allows the cat a slow introduction to it's new home.
